Full of gentle humour, ‘My Life as a Cat’ is a lovely story about belonging and being yourself. A must for primary libraries and book corners.
On their 300th birthday, aliens from a far away galaxy are allowed to spend a month in the body of a creature from Earth. One alien decides to become a forest ranger at Yellowstone National Park, but ends up in the body of a cat. Rescued from a storm by a little girl called Olive, Leonard (as she names him) realises he is miles away from the place where the collective energy of his fellow aliens -known as the hive- will pick him up at the end of his time on Earth. Leonard has to find a way of getting to Yellowstone or face staying on Earth for ever.
Warm and satisfying, My Life as a Cat is a wonderful story. Leonard comes to learn much about himself as well as life on Earth. Being part of the hive is wonderful, but no one ever considers the individual and Leonard comes to enjoy the attention and the bond that is forming between him and the humans he meets. He likes having a name, he even starts to like being a cat and most importantly, he likes who he is.
Much as the story is about Leonard, the reader also learns much about Olive and her relationships. A bright child with an almost obsessive interest in animals, she finds making friends difficult and is uncomfortable with things that her mother’s boyfriend says to her. Through her relationship with Leonard, she grows in confidence and starts to value herself and her interests.

This is my review of My Life as a Cat. I really enjoyed it, it was amazing, my favourite bit was when Leonard jumped into to the river to save Olive from being swept away down the stream; I thought it is was very surprising as cats are meant to hate water. I also really liked the bit when Leonard nearly missed meeting the hive. I can't wait to read I Cosmo.
Before I read this book, I thought that aliens were horrible and cruel but this book made me realise that some aliens might actually be kind and caring.
This book was interesting. It was about a cat called Leonard who is an alien in disguise. He has an owner who is called Olive, and Leonard tells her that he is an alien and needs to be dropped off at the pick up point or he will be stuck on earth forever. I think that the illustrations on the front cover were amazing.
My Life as a Cat is a really good book because it is a fiction book but there is a lot that you can relate to such as the characters emotions. It’s funny, sad, scary and a bit emotional. It is simply an absolutely heart-warming adventurous book.
At first, I thought it was a bit of a weird title but as you read the book and you progress in it you start to understand why it is that way.
My Life as a Cat is a really good book because it is a fiction book but there is a lot that you can relate to such as the characters emotions. I like that there are plenty of rhetorical questions making you think about the book more and the back-story to it.
I would give this book a solid 10 out of 10 as it really does captivate the mind and makes you feel like you are there yourself because it is as if the main character is speaking to you. It’s funny, sad, scary and a bit emotional especially when there is a moment of doubt when the main character Leonard has to choose what to do in his unfortunate circumstance. I could not put this book down; I could not stop reading it. I was glued to it for ages even as a slow reader this was the perfect read for me and I think loads of other people, boys and girls would find this book intriguing too.
Anyone can read this book. It is simply an absolutely heart-warming adventurous book. It has everything in it from crashing to watching a film!
