ABC Book Club is a charity that takes donations of gently used pre-loved children’s books from members of the public and re-donates them to primary schools and other organisations that work with children. In primary schools where pupils have nowhere they can read books for pleasure, they work with schools to create brand new libraries and reading spaces.

ABC's Programs

ABC are able to provide a donation of 500 excellent quality pre-loved books to any school that requests it, for use in their library or classroom book corners. They also offer full library builds, classroom book corner design and whole school library refresh services. Promoting children’s enjoyment of reading is at the heart of everything they do, much like us at LoveReading4Kids.

ABC Book Club's Impact in 2024

ABC is donating thousands of books every month to schools needing new reading materials for their pupils. Requests are increasing and ABC’s reach is becoming wider as word spreads about their services. They have over 50 high street drop off points through our partnerships with local businesses making it easy for the public to drop off books they would like to donate.

200,000 Books Donated

Over 30 schools have benefitted from a brand new ABC Book Club library

Fully themed and imagined by the pupils, each library is a magical space the children can visit to read for pleasure.

Not only do they support primary schools, they also provide books, comics and magazines to other organisations that work with children such as nurseries, refugee charities, children’s centres, food banks and community spaces.

Recent ABC Book Club School Library Projects On a Budget

Pratts Bottom Primary, Bromley BR6

With no funding, and ABC's pro-bono project already arranged for the year, the funding raised by the PTA team at Bromley High Girls School enabled this tiny village primary to get a library they could be excited about.

An unloved dumping ground had brilliant potential, and for just a few hundred pounds and a donation of brilliant books from ABC, the dream team managed to turn the space into an inviting Rainbow Reading Room.

The children now have somewhere they can go and read and by all accounts love their new space.

Kenley Primary School, Croydon CR3

Ten years ago, the parents and staff of Kenley Primary fundraised for and opened a fabulous new library in the school. Fast forward to 2025, and the room is no longer being used in the way the school wants, and asked ABC if they could help revitalise the space.

Using the existing wall colours, carpets and shelving, ABC removed the bookcase that divided the room to open up the space and rearranged the books to make them more inviting. They used the rest of the school's budget to purchase a teacher reading chair, rugs, beanbags, cushions, wall decorations and window clings. All complemented of course by a significant donation of pre-loved books collected from ABC's 100 drop off points across South London and Kent.

The room was relaunched by the school's Chair of Governors and Headteacher to members of the parent association, children and invited guests. Everyone agreed that this make-over was exactly what the school needed to kickstart their 'reading for pleasure' drive amongst pupils - and the pupils didn't waste any time snuggling down with the books and blankets to read!

No matter what the size of project Jo and her team can deliver. And produce a library with love and care; special places that really engender a love of reading in their students. They really are the heart of the schools.
