Literacy changes everything. It gives you the power to shape your future. It's the key to knowledge, confidence, and inspiration. It's better results at school and it leads to better jobs.

LoveReading4Kids has signed the National Literacy Trust's Vision for Literacy Pledge.

We pledge to take action to close the literacy gap and empower children with the literacy skills they need to thrive, regardless of their background.

Background information

Our country’s future prosperity will be driven by the productivity of the next generation.

But in 2024, almost a quarter of 11-year-olds left primary school without the reading and writing skills they need to thrive. The reality is even starker for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

With child poverty on course to increase, we are facing a literacy crisis, with a future workforce that does not have the language and communication skills for a thriving economy and society.

But together, we can change that story.

By bringing together the public, private and charity sector, the Vision for Literacy Business Pledge, in its 10th year, invites businesses to play a vital role in the future of literacy.

9 in 10 (88%) of businesses are converned about young people's level of literacy in the workplace.

1 in 5 (20%) business leaders said poor literacy skills were a significant problem for their business.

What is LoveReading doing for literacy?

In our ongoing quest to improve reading standards and encourage reading for pleasure, LoveReading has donated over £85,000 to UK schools to buy books for their libraries and classrooms. You can help us get more books into schools by purchasing your books at LoveReading and LoveReading4Kids and allocating 25% of your order total to a school of your choice to spend on books with us.

Alternatively,  if you don’t want to select a specific school, your contribution will go into a pot and be split between our school members, prioritising schools in particular need.

Schools can apply to receive this funding pot via our LoveReading4Kids Funding for Schools Scheme
