Here at LoveReading4Kids every day is World Book Day. After seeing the creative ways that schools celebrated World Book Day earlier this year, we decided to create a series to share the bookish joy happening in schools across the UK - so that week in week out, we are keeping the pleasure of reading alive.

For the second in the series we head over to Earlsdon Primary School in Coventry who are brilliant at bringing reading for pleasure to life all year round.

We have been aware of Earlsdon Primary for some time. Tracy Howells is a Key Stage 1 English teacher, and she is an incredible champion. Tracy engages regularly with our content, uses LoveReading4Kids reviews to create reading lists and wishlists of books they’d like in their setting and they utilise LoveReading4Kids to purchase books for their school. In so doing they have earned over £500 of cashback from their purchases in the last 12 months, to spend on more books!

Avid followers of the OU RfP, Tracy listened to their suggestion to host a Summer Booknic with her school. A chance to read, relax, eat and discuss books together, to build reading together memories and offer support for reading. OU RfP research shows that social reading environments matter.

To coincide with National Picnic Day, Earlsdon organised their very first Summer Booknic. And it certainly won’t be their last. They set up sports-themed cosy areas in the park with a selection of books to serve as invitations to read, to encourage children to enjoy reading for pleasure. All using new books the school had purchased from LoveReading4Kids. It was reportedly a fantastic event much loved by all!

If you’d like to hold your own Summer Booknic, find and download the printable resources on the OU RfP website here.
