The Black History Primary School Pack is a fantastic resource pack for teachers and students and is the perfect companion to support the teaching of Black history.

DK have carefully selected five books to create a teacher pack, featuring everything you need to plan and teach Black History in your school, during October and for the rest of the year, including detailed lesson plans and teacher guidance for each title.

The pack contains The Timelines of Black History book, which boasts more than 30 visual timelines, allowing children to explore the biographies of the famous and the not-so-famous - from royalty to activists, and writers to scientists, and much, much more. Stunning thematic timelines also explain the development of Black history - from the experiences of Black people in the US, to the story of postcolonial Africa.

It also includes four DK Life Story titles, introducing children to important Black historical individuals, Dr Martin Luther King, Katherine Johnson, Harriet Tubman and Nelson Mandela.

Save time planning using the free lesson plans, linked to National Curriculum for History and English, focussing on biography genre reading, drama activities and writing.

These DK lesson plans, written by experienced educator and English advisor Shareen Wilkinson, have already been trialled with primary school students.

“The clarity of planning made available has made my life easy. Resources are ready and I know what each lesson’s outcomes are supposed to look like which gives me confidence in delivery. The children have been given the opportunity to develop; their skills of making clear comparisons; retrieving and recording information; understanding of key vocabulary pertaining to Black History and using drama to infer the feelings of a character.” Cindy Tessa Boakye, primary teacher, St. Luke's C of E Primary School (Lambeth)
