Momo Arashima Steals the Sword of the Wind

If you love books with action, adventure, a heartwarming spirit, as well as many twists and turns as a bowl of ramen, this book is absolutely perfect for you.

Momo Arishma Steals The Sword Of The Wind is a funny, warm story about Momo, a girl who is bullied at school and cares for her ill mother at home. The real adventure begins when she meets Niko, a talking fox in a waistcoat and flatcap who shows her the truth: Momo’s mother is actually a Japanese kami (Shintō goddess) named Takiri-bime, and the island that her mother is sworn to protect is overflowing with demons and other evil creatures from Yomi, the land of the dead. Unless Momo somehow manages to stop them and their evil king Shuten-dōji, Momo’s mom will die. Even with the help of magical Niko and ex-friend Danny, can Momo manage to summon the power of Susanno’o and wield Kusanagi, the sword of the wind?

I loved this witty mix of mythology, humor, and adventure because it had so many parts that so many ages can fully appreciate. I had never interacted much with Japanese stories, mythology, and history before, so this book was an extremely refreshing and eye-opening experience. Fans of Aru Shah, Percy Jackson, and similar series will enjoy. On top of that, this story is not finished! That’s right, a second book will (hopefully) make an appearance.

If you love books with action, adventure, a heartwarming spirit, as well as many twists and turns as a bowl of ramen, this book is absolutely perfect for you.

Happy reading!

Amazing book from start to finish you won't want to put it down.

Momo Arashima Steals the Sword of the Wind is an amazing and gripping book from start to finish. Misa Sugiura has done an amazing job of making this world full of adventure and magic. This story follows Momo who just wants an ordinary life but that's all about to change for her and she will become legendary. Follow Momo as she realises that the stories she's been told and teased for by her class mates are real. She's now has to try and save her mother with the help of fox Niko and her former best friend. Definitely recommend this book so you can find out who Momo truly is.

This adventure is full of mythology and it kept me turning page after page. Read this book if you like suspense, other worldly creatures and battles.

This book follows Momo Arashima and her quest to save the world.
Momo finds out about her maternal origins and when her mother becomes unwell, a talking fox named Niki appears and leads her and her ex-friend Danny on an amazing adventure.

Momo has to overcome the challenges in her friendship with Danny, battle off death hags and get the blessing of the 7 lucky gods.

Her grandfather, Susano'o, currently has possession of the sword of the wind as the god of the Storms and Seas. When Momo asks for the sword, Susano'o sets her a challenge to see if she is worthy. Momo and Danny face betrayal placing them in danger.

Danny and Momo disagree over what to do next and when it comes to decision time, they make a path changing decision which puts Momo at the centre of a life changing battle.

Momo travels to the Isle of mysteries, which is protected by her mother's charms, to stop the Oni from draining the life from the island and in turn, her mother.

I really enjoyed this heartwarming masterpiece of Misa Suigiara’s which truly harnesses Japanese culture into written form and stands out from other Japanese books I have read. This book seemed to truly open my eyes to the Japanese culture as if all along I had been reading with my eyes closed.

Momo Arashima Steals The Sword Of The Wind is a heartwarming adventure about a girl called Momo, who is bullied at school and deals with the stress of caring for her ill mother at home. But everything changes, when Niko a talking fox appears and reveals the truth: that her mother is actually a Kami (Shinto Goddess) from Japanese mythology named Takiri-bime and her island has been overrun by Oni, who are slowly poisoning it and her in the process. Even if she gets help from Niko and her old friend Danny will she be able to harness Susanno’s power inside of her and use it to wield the legendary Sword of the Wind ‘Kusanagi’ to save her mother?

I really enjoyed this heartwarming masterpiece of Misa Suigiara’s which truly harnesses Japanese culture into written form and stands out from other Japanese books I have read. This book seemed to truly open my eyes to the Japanese culture as if all along I had been reading with my eyes closed. I liked the fantastic mixture of vocabulary and the withholding tension all the way through the book although I disliked the way Misa presented Danny at the start it is overall an amazing book. Fans of Rick Riordan, Peter Lerangis and Sarwat Chadda will enjoy this book.

I give this a 9/10 and hope that you find this a truly eye opening story.

Hope you enjoy!
