Beyond the Frozen Horizon

Beyond the Frozen Horizon is perfect for readers with a keen interest in environmental issues who also enjoy a good dollop of suspense and mystery mixed with a generous hint of the supernatural. Perfect for fans of The Last Wild, The Last Bear and Julia and the Shark.

Beyond the Frozen Horizon is perfect for readers with a keen interest in environmental issues who also enjoy a good dollop of suspense and mystery mixed with a generous hint of the supernatural.
Set in the not-too-distant future, where climate laws have placed restrictions on many of the things that we currently take for granted, the hero of the novel, Rory, sets off to the Arctic circle to accompany her geologist mum on a work project. However, many things are not what they first appear to be: the intentions of the mining company that her mum is working for; the remaining inhabitants of the once-thriving but now almost deserted mining town in which they are based; the animal noises that Rory hears nearly every night as she lies in her room trying to sleep.
Nicola Penfold gently introduces many big themes but in a way that doesn't preach and doesn't seem overwhelming. Readers will pick up on themes of compromise, complex family relationships, and climate change and its impact on animals and people and what the future could look like. Perfect for fans of The Last Wild, The Last Bear and Julia and the Shark.
