Spellstoppers Reader Reviews

Spellstoppers

Spellstoppers is a great adventure, full of magic and mystery with a little danger added in.

When Spellstoppers arrived I thought it looked a bit young for me but I love any books with any magic in so I thought I would give it a chance.

One chapter in and I didn't want to put it down.  Max, Kit and Grandad Bram had a full on magical? adventure. What had me hooked was that Max is literally the opposite to most main characters in magic books, he has to stop the magic not create it.

I read this book in two sittings, I found it was easy to read, had great characters and has a fast paced story. It would have made a great cliff hanger of a bedtime book when I was younger.

A book with an enchanting and mesmerizing storyline.

Spellstoppers is a magical book full of interesting spells and exciting twists. Max, a boy with an ordinary life, believed that he has been given an awful curse, until he meets his Grandfather who drags him away from the bustling streets of London to the deserted lanes of the village of Yowling. When a sinister castle with a dangerous keeper in Yowling is slowly shrinking to it's doom, the keepers suddenly need help and won't surrender without a fight. Max has set out on an adventure with the guidance of a helpful friend and with the help of the ability of fixing misbehaving magical items.

Reading this book, was exhilarating as I watched Max being plunged into the world of spellstopping. I loved reading this book because it is surrounded by fantasy, shapeshifting keepers, Selkies that are half-human and half-seal, ice-cream sellers that know exactly what you want and ghost captains that have been around forever! If you find reading about enchanting adventures bewitching, I would love to recommend this spellbinding book to you.

Cat Gray has written an original new twist on the power of magic that ends with a dramatic heart-stopping climax. Spite is balanced against the power of friendship and kindness and laced with gentle humour throughout. A great summer read!

Life is no fun when you’re 12-years-old and every time you leave the house you have to put on wellies and a pair of washing-up gloves. Max has learned to live with his unexplained electrical powers and has come to terms with his friends gradually deserting him but things begin to look up for him when his mum sends him to live with the grandfather he barely knows in the strange seaside village of Yowling.
Max discovers that far from being a curse, his electrical powers are actually a gift – a magical gift. Like his grandfather, Max is a Spellstopper who has the ability to disperse dangerous build-ups of magic.
However, out in the bay, a dilapidated mist-swathed castle is home to Leandra, its malicious keeper. Unfortunately for Max, his powers and those of his grandfather, are essential to stop the castle being destroyed by its own haywire magic and Leandra will stop at nothing to secure the help of the two Spellstoppers to prevent the castle from obliterating itself. Whilst Leandra makes the lives of the magical villagers a misery, Max and his new friend Kit enlist the help of ghostly pirate and a fishy fisherman to rid the village of the malevolent keeper once and for all.

This book would appeal to boys or girls, it’s really interesting and shows magic is real!

I found the storyline in this very interesting and not as I expected, in a good way. I wouldn’t have expected it to stop the bad spells and I enjoyed every bit of it (I didn’t want to put it down and read it very quickly) the book gave a strong connection between magic and ordinary things, I loved it.

It was a very interesting book but I slowly got into it. Once I did it was an exciting read.

It’s about a seaside village where magic is about to happen. Everything max touches electrical exploded. Can max save his Grandad? Will his friend kit help him? It was a very interesting book but I slowly got into it. Once I did it was an exciting read.
