Mermaid School

A good book for anyone who likes mermaids.

This is a book about friends and enemies, with a message at the end.

I think this is a good book for anyone who is interested in mermaids. It was a good story. I liked the way the characters names all had something to do with the sea. I thought the main character Marnie was brave and I liked her naughty Aunt Christabel. I did think the story was a little bit like the Worst Witch books, but under the sea, which is great if you like Maude, which I do. It also has bits which I think it are very similar to The Little Mermaid.

The funniest bit was when Aunt Christabel tells Marnie a secret about Miss Tinkle, but I’ll let you read the book to find out what it is.

This is a book about friends and enemies, with a message at the end.

It puts an image in my head of a magical school under the sea, where mermaids and talking sea creatures swim.

Mermaid School is a wonderful book to read and it is illustrated with beautiful pictures of mermaids and sea creatures. The story is about a mermaid called Marnie who goes to mermaid school for the first time. She has an aunt who is a famous singer, but also was very naughty when she went to the school and Marnie is worried the other mermaids won’t like her because of this. She was right to be worried because the teachers expected her to be the same so she didn’t get treated the like normal mermaids.

I love this book because it puts an image in my head of a magical school under the sea, where mermaids and talking sea creatures swim. I like that the story is about friendship and is really good with a surprising ending. I didn’t want to stop reading. Marnie is a great character so I felt sorry for her when she was being picked on.

I would recommend this book to 5-9 year olds particularly girls especially the those who are changing their school or starting a new school.

A lovely short-chapter reading book which is perfect for young readers who are ready to move into first chapter books. Great illustrations and a fun read. Bound to be a big hit with fans of Rainbow Magic.

Mermaid School by Lucy Courtenay is a charming new short chapter book which will appeal to fans of Rainbow Magic. Marnie Blue, our young mermaid heroine, is starting mermaid school and is full of worries, will she make a good impression, will she have to ride the terrifying sea horses but mainly what will everyone think when they find out her aunt is the famous singer and DJ Christabel Blue. Like all good school stories, there are scary teachers, a mean girl, adventures and lessons learnt about the importance of being true to oneself and the importance of good friends.

Mermaid School perhaps is a little formulaic but it is a formula that works very well for its target audience of girls around the age of eight. It is well written and the text is beautifully balanced out with well-chosen illustrations. The writing style is good and even at times entertaining. I know that this book will be devoured by many of the years 3/4 girls who visit my library. A welcome addition to the range of short chapter books available to young readers.

This book would be great for children in Year 1 to Year 4.

It is about a girl called Marnie Blue who goes to school and gets into lots of trouble because she gets sent to the Principal's office on the first day of school! But she soon finds a friend and saves the day. The story takes place under the water. The book begins with Marnie at home in the kitchen. It then moves to the school and then to her bedroom at home. Finally, it moves to Aunt Crisable's music studio. It is an adventure story because near the end Marnie and her friend Pearl steal the sea horses and ride them to find Orla.

Sabrina really got stuck into this book, she often has several books on the go at once but she read this one exclusively until she’d finished it.

Mermaid school is a lovely book telling the tale of Marnie who has trouble starting at her new school. You will love this story if you like the Animal friend series. I cant wait to see if there will be another story! 5 out of 5.

Mermaid School is a lovely book that tells the story of Marnie and her first terrifying day at school.

Marnie gets off to a bad start at the school and finds it hard to make friends. Marnie saves a fellow pupil who hadn't been nice to her at school. After this they became friends and the school becomes a happier place.

I can't wait to see if there will be another Mermaid School story. If you like stories of friendship you will love this.
