This book is a joy to read and the pictures are delightful.
'The Moon Show' by Carmen Gloria is the author's third book in the Kid Astronomy series, coming after 'Thank You, Mercury' and 'Dear Pluto'. It contains information about a small selection of the moons in our solar system, whimsically revealed by our own moon. A summary of these facts is to be found at the end of the book. The book is prettily illustrated, the anthropomorphic moons telling us about their most important attributes one by one as they are introduced. Some also draw life lessons for us from those characteristics, such as Jupiter's Ganymede who says the biggest storms in life sometimes make us shine the brightest, and Neptune's Triton who tells us that our direction in life doesn't have to be the same as other's for us to be happy. This book is a joy to read and the pictures are delightful. I have a slight problem placing the age group the author is writing for, as the content is quite advanced for a picture book, but I'm sure it will appeal to anyone who has ever looked for 'the man in the moon' on a clear night.
A no-nonsense, child-friendly book that tells us about our most immediate planets and their moons.
A no-nonsense, child-friendly book that tells us about our most immediate planets and their moons. It is told in a very straightforward way that will appeal to young children. It is well planned in its delivery and has just enough detail for young readers. The illustrations are good, not cute, but then moons aren't cute! The earth's moon is the 'narrator' and introduces us to Saturn, Pluto, Uranus etc and their moons. A good starter book for budding astronomers, I learned quite a bit too!
A very cheeky little moon introduces us to the planets with their moons in our solar system in a child-friendly way, offering I feel just the right amount of information that a child can deal with.
I would highly recommend this bright and colourful non-fiction book which is aimed at primary school-aged children. A very cheeky little moon introduces us to the planets with their moons in our solar system in a child-friendly way, offering I feel just the right amount of information that a child can deal with. The artwork is very appealing and I thought the personification of the moons worked very well. I especially liked the idea of the moon approval office with its cute illustrations. The length of the book is perfect for young readers and there are questions at the end to bring it to a satisfactory close. It would make a welcome addition to a school library, as well as being a fun way to introduce the solar system to an individual young reader.
I would definitely recommend this book for the little space enthusiasts out there, and also the not so little ones, as you will definitely learn some new facts.
The Moon Show is the third book in the Kids Astronomy series. This book is aimed at younger readers and is an ideal book for any child aged 5 upwards. This book is full of simple but wonderful facts about the different planets and their moons in our solar system. Although this is aimed at the younger readers, I definitely learnt some interesting facts myself, and the illustrations were amazing, so simple yet so cheerful looking. After reading this myself, I then read it with my 5-year-old nephew who has started to take an interest in all things space-related. He actually sat through the whole book and at the end, we went through it again to see what he remembered. After finishing our read together I asked him what he thought of the book and this was his answer: “I liked this book lots, I liked the numbers about the moons. There are too many moons I didn’t know. I like Luna she is my favourite. Maybe you could buy it for Christmas.” From this reaction, this book was a definite hit. I would definitely recommend this book for the little space enthusiasts out there, and also the not so little ones, as you will definitely learn some new facts.
What a wonderful, illustrated book about the moons in our solar system.
What a wonderful, illustrated book about the moons in our solar system. It is great to have the moons talking to The Moon. It is well explained about the planets and their moons. This is the way children should learn all about space. Congratulations on a simple but lovely story about the moon and how it shines.
