I loved this book from the moment I first turned its pages. Infact I could not put it down!
I loved this book from the moment I first turned its pages. Infact I could not put it down!
The story begins on a long journey through space towards a colony far away from earth. As the journey progresses, Beth meets new friends and experiences life in space but all turned for the worst when all adults are put to sleep and are unable to be woken. Beth must take control of the spaceship Orion and evade space pirates and aliens as well as former friends. This book was well written and created stunning images in my mind and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in science fiction.
A high octane, high energy adventure romp in space. Will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Orion Lost is a great action-filled romp of a science fiction book. It has all the ingredients of a great sci-fi read, a space ship crippled in alien space, a possibly mutinous computer system, mysterious aliens and dangerous space pirates.
The Orion Lost is a huge ship taking colonists to a new planet when a mysterious 'event' takes place. All the adults are placed into a coma by the ship's computer and it is up to a small group of children to get the ship to safety and work out what happened. Beth, aged only 13, suddenly finds herself captain and has to overcome her own self-doubt to lead her small team and ship to safety. The ship's computer is keen to help but there is something not right, why does it monitor their every move? Why isn't it telling the truth and why won't it tell them what happened in the 'event'. There are explosions, fires, aliens, double-crossing, robots and spacewalks. The action moves along very quickly and will keep the reader hooked. Perhaps it begins to run out of steam towards the end and all the loose ends are tied up very quickly. Overall though I thought it was a fun read which will keep sci-fi fans very happy and I would happily read any follow-ups.
This book was brilliant, I just couldn’t put it down! All the characters were great but I really liked Beth and Lauryn the best.
I read this book really quickly because it was so good!
It’s about some families in the future who are leaving earth to go and colonise a distant planet. While they are on the ship an ‘event’ happens, which means all the parents are in their sleep pods and can’t be woken up and it is down to a group of just six children to fly the ship and work out what to do. Of course, there are some problems along the way, which made it even more exciting.
I found this book really easy to read, it flowed really well. The way the author described everything I felt like I was actually there with them on the ship. The characters were all great, but I particularly liked Beth and Lauryn, they were my favourite. I think this book will be good for girls and boys equally and I will be telling all my friends to read it when it comes out. Brilliant book, ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is AMAZING! It is set in the far future and tells the story of Orion’s journey through deep space. There is lots of suspense - you will want to keep reading to find out what happens next!
This book is AMAZING! The story is set in the far future where you can travel to the other side of the galaxy in less than a second but only when you are asleep - if you aren’t asleep, you die! The story is told from the perspective of Beth who has to step in and lead Orion’s journey through deep space. She is helped by Ship, Orion’s artificial intelligence but is it lying to Beth? Will the crew all stay loyal to Beth? You also meet the Videshi who are aliens no-one has ever seen before. Or have they? Will the Scrapers destroy the Videshi? There is lots of suspense which makes you want to read the next chapter, and the next, and the next AND hopefully a sequel!
This book is great because it's action-packed and suspenseful. I loved that the kids on the spaceship Orion made all the decisions.
I thought this book was great because it had loads of action and I didn’t want to stop reading. Also, I liked Captain Kier’s role in being the twist of the story. I enjoyed how it was kids in control of the ship and how they made all the decisions.
My favourite character was Captain Kier who was full of betrayal and almost got away with it. He was quite smart but not smart enough to control the kids on the ship. Also, he played a good villain.
My favourite scene was when Captain Murdoch was ready to take control of the machine to destroy the Videshi and the kids 'Jumped' the Orion huge distances.
Three words I would use to describe this book are - exhilarating, suspenseful, action-packed.
This book made me feel that kids could sometimes take more responsibility than they do.
This was one of those books that when I was reading it I kept saying “just one more page".
The story begins in space with the main character Beth and her family travelling to a new life on Eos Five. They are a long way from Earth and their destination when a major problem arises.
This was one of those books that when I was reading it I kept saying “just one more page", and before I knew it I had finished it and was very eager for more.
Their day to day lives while onboard their spaceship was very interesting and the details about the other space stations and where other people live was fun to read about, especially the bad people. I particularly enjoyed how they could make great leaps in their journey to get where they needed to go while they slept.
This is a YA book, but adults, be sure and read this too. This is one to add to your TBR.

Orion Lost is perfect for people who've never read science-fiction and even more perfect for fans of science-fiction!
We started this book and was soon hooked. Amatullah took an instant dislike to Vihaan, Captain Joshi's son. I can't say I blame her as he was mean. Whereas she loved Lauren who is fiesty, funny and super-talented.
Thirteen-year-old Beth is travelling on the Orion, a transport ship with her parents. They are on their way to their new home-based in space. An Event occurs after which all the grown-ups are Asleep, leaving Beth in charge.
This book was exciting and so scary. Beth was the perfect leader despite her low confidence. The descriptions really allow you to imagine the setting and we loved all the futuristic concepts. We'd love to read what happens next!
This gripping, exciting and powerful book kept me guessing...I just had to keep reading!
What did you like about Orion Lost?
That it was so exciting and you never knew what was going to
Happen next so you had to keep reading.
Who was your favourite character and why?
My favourite character was Beth because even though she
Was faced with hard decisions she didn't give up and found
A solution.
Describe this book in three words:
Gripping, Exciting, Powerful
What was your favourite scene in the book?
My favourite scene in the book was when they tricked Captain Murdoch by saying there were mines around the ship when they were actually fireworks and blowing them up with the ship's guns so they could escape.
This book made me feel:
Nervous it was so surprising and exciting at the same time I couldn't put it down
Breathtakingly fascinating!
This is a breath-taking book that leads you into the very heart of space and shows how big our universe actually is. With aliens to villains; no part of this book is boring. The author has captured my fascination with his alien world - the outer space and everything within. This is a magnificent fiction story. The author has blown my mind with his imaginative ideas and just how he put this book together.
Adventurous, exciting and interesting.
What did you like about Orion Lost?
I liked how at first I thought the book might be boring but as I kept reading the book really gripped me. I also liked the style of this writing.
Describe the book in three words
Adventurous, exciting and interesting.
Who was your favourite character and why?
Lauryn, because most of the time she was very hyper and excitable about a lot of things but can't easily stand up for herself because in the book Vihaan Joshi picked her up in the cafeteria and Beth had to step in.
What was your favourite scene in the books?
When Beth was told to go to the sleep pod immediately so the others could jump and when she got in she lost her memory and couldn't remember anything but eventually, everything came back to her.
This book made me feel:
This book made me feel intrigued and made me feel like I want to read more.
Lots of unexpected events kept me on the edge of my seat as I devoured this book in just a few days!
This book is NOT at all predictable! It's is not the normal genre of book I would choose but I couldn't put it down! If you like the sound of sleep pods, space jumps, holograms and space pirates, then you will love Orion Lost!
I really liked the main character - she is very brave! There is lots of interesting science and programming information which appealed to me. It is a real page-turner with exciting cliff hangers at the end of each chapter!
Orion Lost is perfect for boys and girls in Year 6, especially if you are a Star Wars or science fiction fan!
I couldn't put the book down! A story that puts the courage and skills of a group of children to the test when they have to get their transport ship to safety.
Orion Lost is a story about the journey of a select group of people on their way to colonise a planet. However, whilst en route, something goes wrong and the only people awake on the transport ship are a group of children. It's then up to them to use their skills and training to get to safety. There are disputes and arguments and teamwork along the way.
My favourite character was Lauryn as not only is she a bit of a chatterbox, she's also a tech wizz and sorts out many of the problems on the ship. I liked the twist of characters and the fact that Beth finally finds her confidence and becomes a leader.
It was very inspirational and made me want to be like Beth.
An intergalactic adventure!
Orion Lost is a twisty adventure story set on a spaceship. In this new adventure form Alastair Chisholm, the transport ship Orion is heading to a new Earth colony when non of the parents can be woken, now with a significantyly younger crew, will they make it?
I think that this is a great adventure for those that like Space, Starwars and adventures that are out of this world. The plot follows Beth as she becomes captain and has to deal with struggles and tension betweent he other children as well as some tense encounters with aliens and space pirates.
A jam-packed adventure that I think readers aroung the age of 10 will enjoy.
