The Brooch by Sandeep Kumar Mishra is a 30-page children’s picture book. This sweet story has a very positive message. The author intends to show the ripple effects of kindness and how we can all make a big or small difference in someone else’s life by our actions. One act of kindness can inspire another good deed. A young boy gives his churros to a hungry old woman. In return, she gives him a brooch. This brooch is then passed on to several other people, who in turn offer an act of kindness to someone else. It is interesting to see how the story progresses and to see who ends up receiving the brooch. A man needing a loan and hospital patients requiring expensive operations are some of the grateful recipients of the growing wave of compassion. Eventually, the brooch ends up with the president who is meeting with a rival president to discuss events that could lead to war or peace. The book has several pleasant illustrations. Each page has about 25 lines of well-spaced out text. Due to the length of the text, I would recommend this inspirational book for children from about the age of 7 years.
