The Adventures of Calypso tells the adventurous tale of the eponymous puppy as he is swept away from his home. This story reminded me a lot of the animal stories I read and watched when I was little, Oliver and Company or Aristocats and the synopsis itself states that this is a “Lassie type” book. Perfect for young animal lovers to enjoy.
At 18 pages I think that this book is a perfect bedtime story that can be enjoyed in one sitting and I’m sure will be requested again and again. Focusing on themes such as the value of friendship I think that this touching story would be great to read to younger children or for older readers to enjoy independently. I would have loved to see some illustrations throughout the book to really make the story pop but this is a lovely story of friendship and accepting and celebrating differences.
Being an energetic puppy, Calypso chases a nasty rat into a boxcar where he is locked inside and swept away from his owner. Now alone in a bustling city, Calypso encounters a cute terrier named Audrey. However, she must return to Maple Falls forcing Calypso to decide: stay or follow Audrey?
Adventures of Calypso is a fun and adventurous “Lassie” type of story showcasing that friendship comes in all kinds of packages. Calypso's adventure takes him to the big city where he learns about life on the street and the dangers it presents - angry tomcats, dogcatchers, and more, but moreover, the importance of friendships between those who are different.
