We return to Wobblebottom Farm for ‘Doris The Fastest Chicken in the West’ by Dave Thorne. With the same bright and energetic illustrations from Kris Lillyman we see Doris, the fastest animal in the farm, aim to become the fastest chicken in the West. If you’ve read Dougie’s story, ‘When Pig Got Stuck in the Trough’ you’ll see lots of familiar faces as Doris prepares for her race. This is another entertaining rhyming story with a message of sportsmanship and not giving up, as Doris races against the mean Lionel Partington the Third. I think that this book and The Wobblebottom Farm series as a whole would be good for parents to read with their children, and Doris’ story has a wholesome and sweet message about persistence and working hard to reach your goals no matter the challenges. A fun light and sweet rhyming story with a traditional feel and message.
