This is a sweet and meaningful story about how Santa and his elves get ready for his Christmas Eve deliveries. It has rhyming text and cute illustrations with happy colours. The book has an excellent message which is relevant throughout the year, not just at Christmas time. We always want something from Santa. We want him to bring us presents, but we never stop to think that perhaps Santa is hoping for something from us as well. Perhaps it's high time Santa received something from us as well! Santa wants everyone to feel safe and included not just at Christmas, but all through the year as well and for us to look after our world. This message of peace, tolerance, acceptance and care is reinforced by illustrations of a child in a wheelchair and a dog and cat on friendly terms instead of fighting as cats and dogs are prone to do. A subtle point is made that we need to care for our environment so that we can all live companionably together on this beautiful planet we call home. If we are all considerate, there is room for us all. This is an enjoyable book that will particularly appeal to children aged about 3 to 5 years old, who are just starting to understand the magic of Christmas time, but the message of always trying to do good and treat each other well is for all ages.
