"I enjoyed my time meeting Xander and visiting Haven and will be heading back to read book one and staying tuned for the rest of the series."
Continuing on from The Traveller’s Stone, in this new fantasy story, Xander is ready to take the next step in his Traveller training, but a sinister blight is spreading and he is once more drawn into a search for answers to help those he holds dear. This is the second book in the Haven series that follows Xander King, a boy who discovered he’s part of a parallel, magical world filled with mythical creatures. Struggling to balance his “normal” life and school work with his time in Haven and studying lore his friends have known since childhood as part of his traveller training, Xander has the added weight of being the only one in this position and well-known for his work to save Haven in the previous book. To get the most enjoyment out of the series it would be best if readers begin with book one, The Traveller’s Stone although I didn't and was still able to follow the story. The worldbuilding works really well, as we learn about Haven and the training required to be a Traveller alongside Xander during his visit. Readers of the first book will enjoy meeting old faces and new as Xander faces challenges trying to understand the mysterious messages being sent to him and work on developing his powers. The mystery at the core of the book uncovers secrets and raises questions and will have readers guessing right to the end. Xander is a worthy main character, although I was frustrated at the moment I read Flint getting cross at Xander for not confiding in him when he was absent for a lot of the book, Xander took everything that was thrown at him in his stride. I also loved his friendships with Len and Ollie. It's lovely that this fantasy story at its heart is about friendship, trust and celebrating the importance of embracing differences. I enjoyed my time meeting Xander and visiting Haven and will be heading back to read book one and staying tuned for the rest of the series.
