Liz Flanagan’s The Pirate’s Dragon — last book in the splendid Legends of the Sky fantasy series — tells a richly-evoked, action-packed tale of two islands and two children who are divided by long-standing enmity, but come to be united by the common cause of saving dragons.  

Serina is the daughter of a duchess on opulent Arcosi island, while Raff is the son of a pirate on rustic Skull Island — so far, so different, and those differences only seem heightened when Serina is (inadvertently) taken to Skull Island during a dragon egg plundering escapade. In time, though, both Serina and Raff discover that their islands’ disregard for each other might be based on ignorance and fear of difference, just as the need to protect magical dragons becomes pressingly urgent.  

Shot-through with the important message that people have more in common than that which divides them, The Pirate’s Dragon tells a stirring story of trust, courage, friendship, and coming together for a greater good.
