Millie's Magic by Hilary Hawkes is a sweet little book about one little mouse’s hunt for a special birthday gift. Firstly, I really liked the illustrations, they’re textured like an acrylic painting, bright and colourful and I’m sure they’ll capture young readers’ attention. Millie is on the hunt for some magic to give to her Grandpa for her birthday, we see her head through forests and climb mountains as she hunts for the perfect gift. I liked that at the start of the book it mentions different things that young readers could count or look out for through the story and there’s activities at the end for them to enjoy. There’s also a great concept behind Millie’s Magic, a “Feel-Loved” book that has a positive and heart-warming message at the end. Simple, sweet storytelling rounds this book off to make it a nice and gentle read for any young reader, either as a bedtime story or at any time. A wonderfully illustrated picture book filled with positivity and love.
Millie the little mouse lives with Grandma and Grandpa Mouse. It's nearly Grandpa's birthday and Millie wants to get him something really special. So she sets off to find a special gift of something "magic". But where do you find magic?
Her friend Toby suggests looking in the woods, a chicken suggests amongst the weeds across the pond, frog suggests up the big, big mountain. Millie searches high and low but finds nothing. Then she makes a surprising discovery! Illustrated by internationally award-winning Andrea Petrlik and written by Hilary Hawkes
A nurturing feel-good picture book story about adventure and inner magic!
There are points to talk about together at the end of the story and a fun affirmation card activity and puzzle at the end of the book.
