Each series in the PhonicBooks Catch-Up Readers collection contains a selection of ten stories, each one focusing on different CVC words and containing a contents page, chapters, a vocabulary list of words used and at the bottom of each page, any new or multisyllable words are split up into manageable syllables for the reader. There is also a page headed ‘reading practice’ to help reinforce the target phoneme.
All these books are well written and illustrated, but also very clearly marked with the relevant CVC and CVCC levels and targeted phoneme making them accessible to teachers and assistants hunting for appropriate and suitable reading material.
Having so many stories in each series will appeal to children who love an adventure to continue, but it also provides consistency and breadth of reading within the same level of ability. A very reliable resource for the classroom.
Four sets of books designed for older children at the very early stages of reading. Contemporary illustrations and story lines based on the adventures of a group of teenage friends in a band will engage and entertain children across the board.
Set 1 introduces sounds gradually at CVC level with one line of text on each page, Set 2 introduces adjacent consonants and consonant digraphs while Set 3 introduces two spellings for vowel sounds.
The Extras series provides additional practice at the earliest stage of reading (CVC) for those children who need a great deal of support at this level.
