The squirrel, the ant, the elephant and friends return in a new collection of short stories from Toon Tellegen. With lively imagination Toon brings a magical world to the reader where anything can happen: a snail can fly, the sky can turn green, and a tree can get up and walk away.
A Piece of Passion by David Bennett, Publisher, Boxer Books
When I read the first story, Far Away Across the Sea, in a French edition of the original Dutch volumes of these tales written by Toon Tellegen, I hunted down the English rights and bagged them. When it comes to Toon's writing, it is not an overstatement to say unique, extraordinary, singular, touching, remarkable, exceptional, unforgettable...(one could go on) Combined with Jessica Ahlbergs stunning miniature watercolours - magnificent! What a claim! And so true.

Press Reviews
Toon Tellegen Press Reviews
The thoughtful and unusual stories have a lightness of touch making these poetic parables a delight for anyone lucky enough to read them.' -- The Bookseller
Toon’s stories are beautifully told, quirky and delightful, with the warmth of the wonderful Pooh stories. JessicaAhlberg’s illustrations perfectly complement the mood of the writing, they’re a joy! — Wendy Cooling, MBE, Founder of Bookstart
Two of the loveliest and most charming collections of stories I have EVER had the pleasure of reading. Think A.A. Milne’s stories of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin, but a shade quirkier— perfect for anyone old enough to sit and listen, and perfect as family read-alouds.” —Alison Morris, Publishers Weekly

Toon Tellegen, born in Den Briel in 1941, is considered one of Holland’s finest poets and his work has been awarded many literary prizes. He has published more than twenty collections to date. While he considers himself in the first place a poet, he is also a well-known children’s book writer, whose animal stories delight children and adults alike. In addition he has also written novels for adults and several plays. Tellegen works as a GP and lives in Amsterdam with his wife.
Translations of Tellegen’s poems have been published in reviews and anthologies in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Russia. His poetry has also been widely published in British and American journals, and has been very well received. One of Tellegen’s collections, In N.., was translated into English and published in 1993 by Cross-Cultural Communications in New York. A more recent collection of translations, About love and about nothing else, has just been completed and will hopefully find a publisher in the not too distant future.
