A truly uplifting story about love, hope and the importance of patience. Tom plants a seed and imagines what it will be like as it grows – the trunk is a tall mast of a ship with dragons hiding in the leaves! But the tree grows so slowly that eventually Tom grows up and forgets about it, until one day he comes back with his son Edward and there in the tree they can see everything Tom had imagined... A wonderful story that teaches your toddler about the seasons and about time.
Tom plants a seed. When it grows, Tom knows it will be a magical tree, full of fruit and peacocks and even a pirate house. 'I wish you'd hurry up,' Tom says to his tree, but all the wishing and whispering in the world won't make the seedling grow big and strong. Tom has to be patient, and wait for the passing seasons to do their work.
Gillian Shields was born and brought up in Yorkshire. As she grew up, she had two passions; books and theatre. Gillian’s love of books led her to read English at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. After university she studied acting in London, and then worked in a drama school for several years, becoming Vice-Principal.
Having children gave Gillian an excuse to carry on reading children’s books, as well as motivation to write them. She has a young son and a grown-up daughter, and is married to Brian, who works for the International Herald Tribune.
