Shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal 2018 | Longlisted for the UKLA 2018 Book Award
With its dedication, ‘For a united world …’, Britta Teckentrup’s new picture book is a celebration of the things that bring us all together. ‘Wherever we are’ reads the text, ‘we live under the same sky, feel the same love, play the same games, and dream the same dreams’. These short lines are cleverly highlighted in peek-through shapes that link the different pages together and each spread depicts animal families across the world. Teckentrup’s textured collage style illustrations are extraordinarily beautiful and create a real sense of calm, togetherness and hope. With a vital message of unity and friendship, this is an important and moving book to share with children.

Under the Same Sky Synopsis
We sing the same songs, caught on the breeze...We sing the same songs, across the same seas.
Dedicated to a united world, Under the Same Sky is a gorgeous peep-through picture book that uses the animal kingdom to explore the closeness of communities through their shared hopes and dreams.
Through simplistic rhyming text Teckentrup takes the reader through a story of unity. From penguins seeking solace together to rabbits playing in the meadow, deer frolicking in the fields and flamingos sheltering from the storm. Teckentrup’s beautiful collaging techniques bring the animals and their environments to life and reiterates to the reader that despite our differences we all live in this world together.
Teckentrup is one of the most innovative picture book artists working today. Her intricate collage style is striking, original and perfectly brings to life the simple message of unity.
