A German prisoner of war escapes from a POW camp near Bridgend. Two ordinary boys, Dyfrig and Moi, live with their mother in a terraced house in the village of Bont Ddu nearby. Like others in the village, their father is away fighting in France, and four young men from the village have already been killed.
