March 2013 Book of the Month A sequel to the hugely popular Million Dollar Gift. A search for a missing child and the dangers it uncovers takes Ross Bentley to the darkest place he's ever been. He must face danger and great grief and learn to harness his powers to face down his greatest nemesis yet. This is non-stop adrenalin-pumping action and not to be missed.
A Piece of Passion by Ian’s editor Helen: This year I've been editing The Hidden Gift, the follow up to Million Dollar Gift and the second book about the adventures of Ross Bentley by YA author Ian Somers. I LOVE his books! They're about Ross, a teenager with supernatural powers and a smart mouth who's learning about his gift - and about the worldwide network of 'gifted' people, both benign and dangerous, that he encounters. They're real page turners; Ian has created a richly-imagined world where people with special powers walk among us. The books have great characters, fast-paced plots, romance, adventure and they pack an emotional punch. I really enjoy working with Ian and learning about his characters, their powers and the twists and turns of the plots. He's created such a convincing alternative world and such compelling characters that I can't wait to find out what happens to them next. The Hidden Gift is out in March and I can’t wait for people to read it!

About
The Hidden Gift Synopsis
After the terrifying events at the Atkinsons' house in The Million Dollar Gift, it might seem like Ross Bentley would be glad of some peace and quiet.

But when that involves being holed up in a remote Scottish farmhouse, Ross finds he's never felt so alone. Ross is cut off from family and friends, separated from the girl he loves, in hiding, miles from civilisation - and he's really miserable. He has to train, study and practise his powers if he ever has a hope of joining the Guild of the gifted, learning to use his gifts to protect others. But suddenly the monotony is broken - a gifted child has been kidnapped. Hunter, Ross' trainer, needs to track her down, and he has no choice but to take Ross with him.

Ian Somers Press Reviews
A review from one of our Lovereading members, Izzy Read, age 12
Ross Harrison has powers; can move things with his mind. Continued after ‘The Million Dollar Gift’, Ross is being trained by hunter, a member of the Guild, in the middle of nowhere. But this new lifestyle doesn’t suit Ross and he urns for adventure. After the million dollar gift, I thought Ian Somer had set a high standard for him to beat. But he has gone above and beyond the usual standards, thrilling me with the high-paced action, pulling me even more into the book than last time. I sincerely hope there will be more in this series as I am completely hooked!
