November 2022 Book of the Month | Julia Eccleshare's Pick of the Month November 2022

Grace and Luna her cat live in a shop doorway. They have only a few possessions but each one tells a story about their past and is very precious.

Stopping to talk on their way to and from school, Jess and her mother make friends with Grace and Luna. They swap gifts and stories and Jess learns of the home that Grace had to leave and the long struggle to find a safe country in which to build a new home.

When the snow comes and the days get cold Jess worries about what will happen to Grace and Luna. Luckily Grace finds a safer shelter for them where she can begin to build a new life. Jess’s brief friendship with Grace can open all children’s eyes to the importance of reaching out to those in need.

Home for Grace is a heartwarming and moving children’s book which tells the story of kindness and friendship to a homeless lady. It is beautifully written and illustrated and very much a book of our times.

Home for Grace is a beautifully illustrated book that tells a story of kindness and compassion to someone less fortunate. It is about a mum and her little girl Jess who do not walk on by when they see a homeless lady in a shop doorway but reach out and in doing so learn that the homeless have a face, a name, and their own story. I read this with my grandchildren, it prompted questions, which is a good thing, and it was wonderful to see just how much they engaged with the story and enjoyed it.... Read Full Review

Heartwarming story to teach children about helping refugees.

A beautiful story about being kind and helping others. I am a primary school teacher and my class loved reading this over and over again, particularly around Christmas time.... Read Full Review
