September 2024 Book of the Month
This is the fourth adventure story starring indomitable ex-orphan Bridget Vanderpuff and brings this hugely inventive and enjoyable series to a close.
The action, which unfolds with the speed of a Kenwood Chef mixer set to high, takes place as Bridget, Mr Vanderpuff and her friend Tom, arrive in the village of Butterälp for the famous Cocoacobana chocolate festival only to find the festival cancelled, village threatened by a ginormous terrifying monster. If anyone can save the villagers, Bridget can.
Book four this may be, but there are apparently no limits to Martin Stewart’s imagination and subsequently no limits to Bridget’s ingenuity and resourcefulness. Never happier * than when she’s employing her baked goods weapons against The Meanies, or other villains, she strides through this adventure like a colossus, saving the day and returning things to their natural, chocolate-filled order. It’s utterly delicious reading, full of thrills, the unexpected, and cake. What more could young readers want?
*Except perhaps when in a library.
