With the nights getting longer, this is a perfect book to share at bedtime. Not only does it remind us of the colour and warmth of the natural world, but the stories, gathered from across the globe and with lovely colour illustrations by Anja Sušanj, are just right for reading aloud.

Some will be familiar, the story of The Nettle Queen who has to sew her six brothers shirts from nettles to undo the spell that has turned them into swans; or the story of Eagle and Owl, taken from The Mabinogian. Others will be new, but all of them, stories of hares, foxes, hedgehogs, oak and apple trees, will send readers and listeners out into the countryside in their imaginations, connecting them with the wild world.
