"Magic, mischief and witchery abound in this funny, feisty tale about fibs, friendship and telling the truth"
September 2022 Book of the Month
Sparks in name, and sparky in nature, Maggie is an adorably energetic witch with a pet chameleon and a penchant for making magical mischief! In Maggie Sparks and the Truth Dragon, the third book in Steve Smallman’s Maggie Sparks series, a big bundle of fun and mayhem is shot-through with a valuable message – it’s always better to tell the truth.
When being honest lands Maggie in trouble while visiting her fancy-pants aunt, uncle and cousin, she declares, “Telling the truth is overrated. I’m going to try fibbing instead!” Unfortunately, this strategy creates more trouble. First, Maggie falls out with her shy best friend Arthur. Next, her magic goes somewhat awry. Thankfully, though, Grandpa Sparks’ truth dragon sets Maggie back on track.
With bitesize chapters providing a satisfying reading experience, plus a bedazzlement of energetic illustrations by Esther Hernando, this is a brilliant bridge between picture books and longer novels, and a satisfying, fun-drenched story in its own right.
