Jonathan King’s glorious graphic novel tingles with tension, intrigue and contemporary cool. Set in a (usually) sleepy fishing community, bookish Miro inadvertently finds himself drawn into an unsettling mystery to rival the adventures he reads about - a mystery involving an ancient cult, a creepy old castle, Antarctic exploration, and mega-marine monsters. One thing’s for sure, something fishy is definitely afoot (or should that be a-tentacle?), and this totally rocks.
The classic colour palette has awesome enduring appeal, and mention must be made of the outstanding visual and textual characterisation - there’s so much expressive detail, however incidental or key the character might be.
The Inkberg Enigma is a brilliant graphic novel from New Zealand comic creator and film maker, Jonathan King. Miro is dragged away from the comfort and adventurous worlds of his books when real-life adventure finds him through Zia.
The unlikely duo is dragged into a mystery as they uncover the secret that has corrupted their fishing town nestled in the shadow of an ancient castle.
In this thrilling mystery, they investigate the strange occurrences, try to find out what has a powerful hold over the town and along the way encounter monsters of the deep, an ancient cult and a mysterious, reclusive old lady.
A great middle grade graphic read with Jonathan King’s drawing style a strong nod to the Belgian and French classics.
