October 2022 Book of the Month
Sequel to Amari and the Night Brothers, B.B. Alston’s Amari and the Great Game is an energetic adventure for fans of big world-building, big characters and the highest of high-stakes storylines, with Amari’s fabulously dynamic, authentic voice at its spirited heart.
Fresh from finding her cursed brother and saving the supernatural world, Amari’s fortune cookie warns her to “Beware of unseen dangers” just as a time freeze strikes and she’s uninvited to summer camp at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs. So much for her first stint as a Junior Agent being a walk in the park.
When magicians are blamed for the freezing event and put on the UnWanted list, and when old divisions of the Ancient War re-emerge, it’s understandable that Amari turns down a leadership opportunity when the League of Magicians come a-calling. But when the Great Game challenge is issued — a high-stakes contest that will decide the future of magiciankind — how can she not step up…?
Rooted in friendship (“being best friends means showing up for each other no matter what”) and a sense of being brave and doing the right thing, Amari and the Great Game is magical in multiple ways.

About BB Alston
B.B. Alston started writing in middle school, entertaining his classmates with horror stories starring the whole class where not everyone survived! After several years of trying to break into publishing, he had just been accepted into a biomedical graduate program when a chance entry into a twitter pitch contest led to his signing with his agent, 20+ book deals worldwide, and even a film deal.
When not writing, he can be found eating too many sweets and exploring country roads to see where they lead. B.B. was inspired to write Amari and the Night Brothers because he couldn't find any fantasy stories featuring Black kids when he was growing up. He hopes to show kids that though you might look different, or feel different, whatever the reason, your uniqueness needn't only be a source of fear and insecurity. There is great strength and joy to be found in simply accepting yourself for who you are. Because once you do so, you'll be unstoppable.
