"The storyline focuses on acknowledging Milko’s feelings of sadness, which I think could make this picture book good for children who may find themselves in Milko’s position, and offer an opportunity to talk about how they’re feeling."
Available from Chasing A Spider Publishing.
A beautifully illustrated and gently told tale of a little boy who misses his mum. Milko’s mum is living in Ethiopia for a year, which feels far from Milko and his family’s home in Bolivia. The seasons change, his little sister doesn’t stop crying and his father isn’t very good at shopping at the market which all compounds the feelings of separation in this softly told tale. ‘Milko’ is beautifully illustrated with vibrant full page illustrations that complement the story showing the passing of the seasons and glimpses of a mother’s face. The storyline focuses on acknowledging Milko’s feelings of sadness, which I think could make this picture book good for children who may find themselves in Milko’s position, and offer an opportunity to talk about how they’re feeling. A gentle tale about family bonds and living far away from loved ones, something many people will be able to relate to.
