"Serving a riotous blast of rhyming words and characterful pictures, this parp-i-licious picture book shows there’s no shame in tooting — everybody does it!"
It’s fair to say, the world isn’t short of parp (and poo) themed picture books. It’s also fair to say that not all parp books are created equal. Happily, though, Jonny Leighton’s Everybody Toots! sits top of the trumping tree, with Mike Byrne’s characterful illustrations adding further gusto to a tale that showcases a dazzling diversity of blow offs, revealing that while they come in many shapes, sizes, fragrances and sounds, everybody toots in one form or another!
In fact, that “no shame” vibe is what sets Everybody Toots! apart from many of its parpy peers. It begins with a little mouse, Jerboa, feeling terribly embarrassed when “a squeaky, stinky toot” slips from his bottom. “I meant to keep that in,” he laments. To which his elephant buddy responds, “Don’t be silly. You’d explode if you didn’t let one out, every now and again.”
To demonstrate his valuable point, Elephant introduces Jerboa to a world of windy wonders, from the dog that releases a “PUTT PUTT PUTT from its butt butt butt”, to “lizards that go POP! and SQUEAK!”, and snakes that “toot gently in their sleep.”
Great fun to read aloud (over and over and over again), Everybody Toots! is a sure-fire winner for folks who are fascinated by farts, however young (or old!).
