‘Quaint is one of those words that can tip easily into eerie once the weather turns and the dark of winter closes in,’ says Herbert Lemon, Lost and Founder at the Grand Nautilus Hotel in the seaside town of Eerie-on-Sea, and narrator and hero of Thomas Taylor’s Gothic adventure series.
In this the fourth book, Herbert and his friend Violet edge closer to the secrets that are buried deep in Eerie, secrets that may reveal how Herbie came to be washed up on the seashore in an empty lemon crate. With the visitor attractions empty and mist rolling in from the sea, Eerie is always creepy, but the return of Herbie and Violet’s arch enemy Sebastian Eels ups the fear factor considerably, especially when he sets about reopening the town’s long-abandoned waxworks, Festergrimm’s. The children’s endeavours to find out what Eels is really up to involve secret night-time visits to the Waxworks, while in story within a story we discover more about the man who made the waxworks, and so much more besides, Festergrimm himself. That story is one of love and loss and stars a huge clockwork iron man, complete with figurative human heart. It’s cleverly told, full of surprises and the imaginative twists and turns we’ve come to expect from this series.
Eerie-on-Sea’s wonderfully eccentric inhabitants have their own part to play and the story will cast its spell once again over readers.

About
Festergrimm Synopsis
When Herbie and Violet's arch-enemy Sebastian Eels turns up in Eerie-on-Sea, seemingly back from the dead, it can only spell bad news. The town may welcome his entrepreneurial scheme to resurrect Festergrimm's Waxworks, a dusty and defunct old gallery of spooky characters from Eerie legend, but Herbie and Violet are suspicious of his motives. And when they learn the legend of Ludo Festergrimm the clockmaker, creator of a vast mechanical robot that wrought havoc in the wrong hands, they KNOW they're on the right track. But how can they get the residents of Eerie-on-Sea to believe them?

'Taylor's magical touch makes you believe the impossible. -- Catherine Doyle
This is a fantastic and legendary series bringing Eerie on Sea's best legends to life and keeping the reader completely enthralled and engaged! The series goes from strength to strength and I cannot wait for Mermedusa!' - myshelvesarefull.com
'This fantastically realised setting and the charm of Herbie, Violet and the other characters that inhabit it always draw me in as a reader and always leave me wanting more. Festergrimm is no exception. The new location is granted to spook adults and children alike, the threat feels real, the villain is perfect (chilling, clever and steeped in arrogance) and the story moves at a brisk, exhilarating pace. This is a brilliant series of books for children aged 9 and above to read independently or to be read aloud. I can't wait for the next one!' - Always Stepping Into the Page
'[...]A must-read for fans of the books so far and perfect for readers aged nine to ninety-nine, if you have not as yet read Malamander you need to rectify that situation immediately.' - Jacqui, NetGalley
'Everything's we've come to love and look forward to in the Eerie-on-Sea adventures is packed in the pages and will delight its fans young and old. It's a fast paced adventure, full of some wonderful twists and turns and some great edge of the seat moments.' - Debbie, NetGalley

About Thomas Taylor
Thomas Taylor was born in Norwich, but grew up by the sea in Wales. His childhood was mostly about drawing, something he learnt to do in Maths classes.
After art school, Thomas set out to illustrate books, then to write them himself. His first commission was the cover art for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. Following this, he pursued a career in picture books, mostly from France where he lived for many years.
Thomas now lives on the south coast of England and has two sons. Sometimes they ask for help with their maths homework, so now they’re learning to draw too.
