April 2024 Book of the Month
Malika, aka Boog, and her best friends Jules and Cedric face problems your average kid doesn’t. Their town is under attack from vampires and they and their families are the only thing standing between their neighbours and the undead.
In the first book in this series, we discovered that in their younger days their parents were members of The Vanquishers, specially trained vampire slayers. The stakes (sorry) are considerably higher in this episode, the vampires are stronger and a lot more aggressive while the arrival of the mysterious Department of Vampire Affairs just adds to the challenge.
The kids themselves need to arm themselves and fight alongside their parents – and in the midst of it all, they’ve still got to do their homework.
The vampire action is properly thrilling, but just as appealing is the description of the friendship between our young vampire slayers, while there’s a strong seam of social comment too, these are Black vampire hunters after all. Recommended.

The Vanquishers: Secret of the Reaping Synopsis
The second book in the bitingly brilliant and fangtastically feisty middle-grade series The Vanquishers by New York Times bestselling author Kalynn Bayron.
Fans of The Breakfast Club Adventures, Goosebumps and Stranger Things will devour this fun, thrilling and heartfelt vampire adventure.
The Vanquishers are back, this time with new junior members, and are ready to defend their town against the undead! Malika 'Boog' Wilson and her best friends Cedrick, Jules, and Aaron – aka the Squad – always stick together. Now that vampires have returned, they’ll need to take their Vanquisher lessons more seriously than ever. But who is behind this return of the undead? When strange disappearances begin across their community and the Department of Vampire Affairs warns Boog’s mum to keep quiet about vampires returning, it looks like uncovering the truth won't be so easy.
The Squad is eager to take on the undead, but will they be able to convince their parents they are ready to fight alongside the Vanquishers?
