I’m happy to admit that my mind boggles when I think about the universe, its size, its age … and that’s before we even get onto cosmic inflation. Which is why I enjoyed this book so much.

In the form of the diary of the universe, and in the starry company of astronaut Tim Peake, the book helps us understand those really big ideas. It starts with the Big Bang 3.8 billion years ago and carries on, as stars form, supernova come into existence, and life begins on this rocky little planet. The amount of information packed in is extraordinary, and it’s carefully explained so that we can all get our heads round it, even particle physics.

The addition of bold, bright diagrams, charts and illustrations all helps too. Such is the tone and the approach, readers will genuinely feel that Tim Peake is there at their side and his afterword will inspire them to see themselves differently, and to determine to keep on finding new things out. Readers, we have nothing to lose but our boggles!
