If there is one thing guaranteed to make the build up to Christmas Day even more exciting it is reading a book designed to be started on the 1st December and finished on Christmas Day and this is exactly what the author of the bestselling Strangeworlds Travel Agency series has given us! Of course, since it published now, I had to read it all at once!

The story opens with Harper finding tinsel in her sandwich as her Mum goes into a frenzy of decorating and then announces some big news. Big enough to even attract brother Will’s attention, Her boyfriend will be coming to stay with them for Christmas and when he arrives it is a bigger surprise because he is called Nick and he looks just like Father Christmas, but only Harper seems to notice. There follows a series of episodes – a reindeer on the roof, snow only in their garden, the ability to make perfect gingerbread and mend toys- but still no one believes her. Meanwhile Harper is also worried about Will whose friends seem to have turned on him and who seems to be dealing with some issues of his own.

The family dynamics are touching and affectionate throughout. Each short chapter ends on a cliff hanger or thought -provoking moment which will keep young readers engaged. Without giving anything away, you can rest assured that the magic of Christmas will be preserved in a delightful, amusing story about accepting family changes and the importance of celebrating Christmas with those you care about.
