"A delicious mix of enchantment, excitement and cake, lots of cake"
April 2022 Debut of the Month
If, like me, you think that teashop is one of the most delightful compound nouns in the English language, then Andy Sagar’s story is going to be very much to your taste. It tells the story of Yesterday Crumb, orphan and strangeling, brought up miserably in a circus as an exhibit because of her beautiful fox ears, until she is rescued by a talking crow and taken into another world as apprentice to the extraordinary teawitch Miss Dumpling. Miss Dumpling is the proprietor of Dwimmerly End Teashop, motto ‘magic is priceless’. So far not quite so good for Yesterday though, because in the gap between running away from the circus and arriving at Miss Dumpling’s door, she encounters sinister Mr Weep who puts a splinter of ice into her heart, leaving her with just one month to break the contract he tricked her into signing, before she freezes entirely. With Miss Dumpling at her side, buoyed up by magical tea and cake and discovering her own magical powers, there’s hope for Yesterday yet. The story is utterly delicious, the sweetness of the warmth and comfort of the teashop more than balanced by the presence of Mr Weep and his goblin henchmen. This sparkling magical adventure is one to recommend to fans of Starfell or The Hatmakers.

This exciting book is about a girl named yesterday who is introduced to magic. She goes on an exciting adventure to find a mournful rose. What will happen next?
This interesting new book is about a girl named Yesterday. She is no ordinary girl as she was born with fox ears and ends up being part of a circus. She secretly escapes from her tedious, unwelcoming life and is introduced to magic by a tea witch who helps her become acquainted with many new magical creatures. She then starts an adventurous quest to find a single, perfect ‘Mournful rose’. This is not as easy as it seems and a shocking twist near the end changes almost everything. What adventure will this turn into? What kind of magic will she learn?
I liked that Yesterday is helped by a range of magical things. I also like the expressive style of Andy Sagar and the magical creatures he describes. I like the people’s personalities and the different, difficult teas Yesterday learns to make.... Read Full Review
Yesterday Crumb has fox ears and lives in a circus. A great read.
This book was great. A girl name Yesterday Crumb lives in a circus and visitors make fun of her because she has fox ears instead of human ones. A talking crow helps her to escape and when they go into the woods, they meet an evil stranger. He tells Yesterday that he has the ability to take away her fox ears so she can look and feel like she’s a regular human like everyone else. All she has to do is agree. So when she gives him permission he tricks her and puts a splinter of ice into her heart. In one month’s time, she will freeze to death.... Read Full Review

This book is a bit like Harry Potter or Nevermoor and if you liked those kind of magical type books then you should definitely read this one.... Read Full Review
