Eleanor Hodgman Porter was an American writer most famous for creating the character Pollyanna. Born in 1868, she trained as a singer and continued in this career until around 1901. She married John Lyman Porter in 1892. She published both short stories and novels, experiencing commercial success as a writer. She died in 1920.
