Continuing the spirited story that began with Alex Neptune: Dragon Thief, David Owen’s Alex Neptune: Pirate Hunter is awash with exhilarating adventure, zany comedy, and zappy pace. It’s also packed with peril, courage and a swashbuckling spirit of environmentalism.

“Wielding the infinite power of the world’s oceans turned out to be a lot more difficult than Alex Neptune had hoped”. So begins Alex’s second Haven Bay-set adventure. Only a short time ago, the bay’s water was “clogged with filth”, polluted to such an extent that no animal could survive in it. But thanks to Alex saving the Water Dragon with the help of his best friends Zoey and Anil, respectively a tech genius and an underwater expert, the bay is brimming with fish and dolphins.

All of which means the arrival of a ship fashioned from rubbish and crewed by pirates set on stealing the Water Dragon’s lost egg is very bad news indeed. Given that the Water Dragon only lays a single egg, whoever finds it would essentially “have power over the whole ocean”. So, it falls to Alex to find the egg before Brineblood and his crew get their dirty hands on it.

Facing escalating challenges, riddles and puzzles, and having also promised to rescue a pair of environmentalists from Brineblood’s clutches, Alex and his own crew embark on a thrilling treasure hunt propelled by urgent necessity.
