When she wasn't out riding her bike or making things out of loo rolls and scraps of fabric, Ruth Brocklehurst spent much of her childhood immersed in historical novels by writers such as Leon Garfield, Rosemary Sutcliff and Cynthia Harnett. Since then, she has been lucky enough to combine her love of books and history in her job as an editor and writer for Usborne. Her book about the Victorians won the Longman/History Today New Generation Award. Ruth lives in a funny mock-tudor house in Brixton, and if she could go back in time she'd like to meet Mary Queen of Scots.
