The hero of this story – which is dedicated to every child who loves a special book – wants a pet, but it’s got to be one that’s easy, not like puppy dogs or kittens, which simply make him sneezy. He finds the perfect thing in his local bookshop – a frisky red hardback! The boy is delighted with his new pet book, which is everything he’d wanted and more, so imagine his horror when he comes home one day to find it missing! All ends well (the best books always do) with book and boy reunited. Staake has great fun with his daft premise, and his ultra-bright digital illustrations are full of extra visual jokes too. A bit bonkers, but guaranteed to make readers laugh! ~Andrea Reece
Most pets are cats and dogs, but what do you do if you want a different kind of pet, one that doesn't meow or bark? Bob Staake's exuberant tale of a little boy and the pet of his dreams will appeal to anyone whose best friends are... books! Books make the perfect pets, the boy decides, and chooses a bright red one. When it goes missing, a lively adventure is in store for readers who love a happy ending. Soon kids everywhere will wish for a pet book of their very own.
