Here’s another inspired and inspiring book from the team who brought us picture book gems including Ada Twist, Scientist and Iggy Peck, Architect.
Lila Greer, number five in a family of five, is an anxious child. Faced with new people, places or scenarios she is overwhelmed by ‘What ifs?’. Starting a new school piles these up, ‘What if I mess up?’, ‘What if they don’t like me and we don’t get along?’. Fortunately, she has a very special teacher who knows just what to do.
Skipping ahead, we see Lila, now a teacher herself, about to meet her first class. When self-doubts arrive because, as we all know, age doesn’t really affect them, she remembers what Miss Kern taught her and they fade away. There’s lots for everyone to learn here, delivered as ever by this author illustrator team with immense style, empathy and fun.

About
Lila Greer, Teacher of the Year Synopsis
A moving story starring the Questioneers' teacher that's all about kindness, learning to face your fears, and the profound difference that one brilliant educator can make in a child’s life from the #1 bestselling creators of Aaron Slater, Illustrator and Ada Twist, Scientist!
Lila Greer is full of worries. Even the smallest things—from cabbages to cardboard—fill her with dread and What Ifs. So when her family makes a big change—moving to a new town—the worry and What Ifs only grow. What if things go wrong? What if no one likes her?
At first, Lila feels right to be worried. In her new home, everything is strange. The new kids, the new smells. Lila feels alone and invisible. But there’s one person who sees her: Lila’s teacher, Ms. Kern. Through some creativity, blackboard erasers, and—most of all—kindness, Ms. Kern finds a way to make Lila feel welcome and open to new experiences. A lesson that will resonate with Lila long after second grade.

About Andrea Beaty
Andrea Beaty is the author of many beloved children’s books, including the bestselling Questioneers series, I Love You Like Yellow, Happy Birthday, Madame Chapeau, and One Girl. She lives just outside Chicago.
"I was raised in southern Illinois in a town so small I knew everybody and their pets. And they all knew me. I was one of six kids and we spent our summer days traipsing through the fields and forests hunting for adventure. We often found it. And sometimes it found us. Always, it was fun and often, we laughed so hard we blew Orange Crush or Grape Nehi Soda out our noses. I still avoid Grape Nehi . . . just in case. I was a big reader as a kid and LOVED Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon Mysteries. Then I moved on to Agatha Christie books and then the classics. Don’t tell anyone, but my secret ambition is to star in a Broadway musical and I am often tempted to break into song and dance at very odd moments. Mostly in the frozen food section of my grocery store. They have very good lighting."
