Bringing Open Very Carefully creator Nicola O'Byrne to the Walker list, this tender, touching story voices all those worries a child has about change, and celebrates the loving bond between father and daughter.
Bear and Dad are moving. But as they leave their old home behind and set off on their drive towards the new, Bear is full of questions... Where is she from now? What if she doesn't like the new home? How will she make new friends? Everything is about to change ... Bear is moving home. What if I don't like it there? she worries, How will I make friends? But Bear's dad reassures her with wise and comforting words and, by the end of their journey from the city to the country, Bear comes to realize: just as long as she is with her dad, she will always be at home.
When Nicola was 5 years old her parents banned Saturday morning television, and she has been drawing ever since. Nicola grew up in Singapore surrounded by the vibrant colours of the tropics and had not even heard of illustration as a career before she discovered the Illustration course at Edinburgh College of Art. Having graduated from ECA, Nicola has now completed a Masters in Printmaking from Camberwell College of Art, as well as pursuing a career in children's book illustration. She gets most of her ideas for children's books when she should be working on something else, and bases all of her characters on people she knows.
