In a story reminiscent of The Gruffalo, this stylish book builds tension via repetition and suspense to a very funny, unexpected ending. Mouse spots a nut high up in a tree and, ‘Mmmmm’, shakes the trunk a little to the left, a little to the right in order to dislodge it. Imagine her surprise – and ours – when not the nut but a fox falls out of the tree. Now it’s the mouse’s turn to be a tasty treat and she quickly takes refuge in the branches. When fox shakes the tree, he too finds himself in trouble, and so on, until at last someone shakes everyone plus nut to the ground. The minimalist illustrations hold the eye, and the punchline lends itself to repeat readings and it’s great fun, especially when the layout asks readers to turn the book sideways to see the full length of the tree. ~ Andrea Reece

It all begins with one tasty nut, hanging on the highest branch of a tree. A little Mouse looks at it longingly - he wants to eat it, so very much. But how can he get it down? By shaking the tree, of course! Can you, the reader, help him? Shake the tree - a little to the right (shake)... and a little to the left (shake shake). But - UH-OH - something else is falling from the tree, and it's looking rather hungry...
