LoveReading4Kids Says
Set in what appears to be an undefined recent history – which felt Edwardian to me – this is a wonderfully drawn city. Mainly in monochrome but with glorious splashes of colour, and in some cases big double page spreads of muted colours – the park, for instance, early in the story, is a joy in full colour.
Lizzy buys a small undistinguished cloud from the cloud seller in the park. She names her cloud Milo and follows the instructions for care of the cloud very carefully, making sure he is watered regularly. The set of instructions for looking after the cloud are longer than Lizzy expected – but her cloud grows well until he covers the whole of the ceiling of her room. Would Milo ever stop growing?
It seems Lizzy had forgotten the last rule of care for clouds – never confine them in a small space. Lizzy then instinctively knows the final rule – not included in the manual of care – it was time to let Milo float free.
What a gentle, creative, beautiful way to start the conversation with children that sometimes it is more caring to let somethings go than to hang onto them… the memories always remain. A book that is enchanting, beautiful, and full of things to look at and spot in the illustrations. Don’t forget to look under the dustcover for a gentle surprise.

About
Lizzy and the Cloud Synopsis
Lizzy and the Cloud is a whimsical and sweet tale of a young girl who cares for her pet cloud as it grows, from the creators of the critically acclaimed The Night Gardener and Ocean Meets Sky.
It's a little out of fashion to buy a pet cloud, but Lizzy doesn't mind. She's not looking for a big one or a fancy one, just one that's right for her. And she finds it in Milo. Soon, she's taking Milo out on walks with her family, watering Milo right on schedule and seeing Milo grow and grow. But what happens when her pet cloud gets too big for Lizzy to handle?
This charming story with beautiful illustrations from the exceptionally talented Fan brothers will enchant readers young and old alike, teaching children an unpredictable journey of growth and loving something enough to set it free.
