Lincoln ‘Big Nate’ Peirce’s new book is a brilliantly funny story of knights, troubadours, wizards and derring-do, all played out via a snappy mix of text and illustrations. Max is a troubadour in training with Uncle Budrick. Max however really doesn’t want to be a troubadour, but a knight. A series of mishaps lead the two to Byjovia, where Uncle Budrick is imprisoned by wicked King Gastley. With the support of a gang of young friends, aka the Midknights, is this Max’s chance to be a hero? The adventures come thick, fast and very funny and there are surprises in every chapter.

Readers who like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants or the 13-Storey Treehouse series will lap this up, but it’s hard to see anyone not enjoying these hilarious adventures.

Set in medieval times but no boring historical story. Half-written in comic strips, expect magic, dragons, secrets and adventure. It’s really good! I recommend this book to anyone 7+.

Half written in comic strips, this story is set in medieval times, but it is not a boring historical book! There are magic spells, dragons and terrifying gargoyles. Max’s uncle is a troubadour and Max is meant to follow in his footsteps. But Max doesn’t want to be an entertainer, Max wants to be a knight. When Max’s uncle is taken to work for an evil king, Max has no choice but to take action. Friends are needed to help with the rescue and Max meets Simon, Millie and Kevyn. But will the band of midnights succeed in their mission? Will they guess Max’s secret? Will Max get to be a Knight? I really enjoyed this book and recommend it for anyone 7+.... Read Full Review

This book is EPIC. I loved the illustrations. I loved the twists and laughs along the way.

What a fun read. I loved this so much. Really sad when it ended.
Max wants to be a knight - too bad that dream is about as likely as finding a friendly dragon. But when Max's uncle Budrick is kidnapped by the cruel King Gastley, Max has to act . . . and fast! Joined by a band of brave adventurers - the Midknights - Max sets out on a thrilling quest: to save uncle Budrick and restore the realm of Byjovia to its former glory!

The illustrations are great and it was exciting to turn every page.

I especially like the twist but I won't spoil it for you. My favourite part is when Max's uncle gets turned into a duck.
This book is no ordinary book, Max wishes to be a brave knight but instead has to be a Troubadour which kinda stinks.... Read Full Review
