May 2024 Debut of the Month

Voiced by the effervescent Ruby Roo, Dino Dad — the children’s fiction debut by CBeebies star Andy Day — sets up a new series in entertaining style. Enhanced by animated, characterful illustrations by the ever-brilliant Steven Lenton, it’s a riot of family-centred adventure accompanied by dinosaur facts and page-turning energy.

Ruby (“I’m six-and-a-little-bit years old, and I have long, wavy blonde hair. I love outdoor adventures, solving problems and learning new things”) comes from a long line of dinosaur experts. Not only does her dad own a “VERY popular local dinosaur museum, full of fossils and models of amazing prehistoric creatures that people come from all over the world to visit”, but her great-great-GREAT-grandad named the first-ever dinosaur to be discovered.

But, as our heroine discovers on one typically chaotic Saturday when her little sister Indie vanishes, Ruby and her dad are, in fact, “POOPAs”, AKA Protectors of our Prehistoric Allies, and that’s not even the half of it! After journeying to find Indie on a special island on which dinosaurs still exist, Ruby finds out she and her dad can actually transform into dinosaurs.

Cue all manner of mayhem and anthropomorphic dinosaur antics, with a satisfying “home in time for tea” ending that’ll leave fans of funny adventure fiction hungry for the next book in the series.
