October 2022 Debut of the Month

Peggy Devona can see ghosts; what’s more, she can hear and speak to them. In 1897 England though, and particularly in the small mining village where she lives, that’s not something to advertise, and there are those who think her ability is threatening. But it’s Peggy’s friend Sally who falls foul of the law, arrested and condemned for a murder she didn’t commit. Peggy needs the help of ghosts to save her friend, even though it puts her own life in danger. The dark of this Gothic adventure is brightened by the sparky resilience of its characters, but it sends multiple shivers down the spine and delivers thrilling twists along the way.

This book is amazing; it is full of vivid descriptions, spookiness and lots of adventure! Combined with the mysterious streets of 1835 England, this book is the ultimate read!

This book has got to be one of my favourites this year. Hayley Hoskins writes in a way that is interesting, interactive and immersive. The book will send shivers down your spine as you read it, especially the first part. You will get lost in the complicated world of twelve-year-old Peggy Devona as she battles through friendship problems, evil foes and some seriously scary spirits!

The book explores themes of ghosts, friendship and family love all throughout.... Read Full Review
