Written by Humza Arshad, creator of the hit YouTube series Diary of a Bad Man, and comedy writer Henry White, Little Badman and the Time Travelling Teachers of Doom is a tornado of personality and adventure, with Aleksei Bitskoff’s illustrations adding extra humour.

12-year-old Humza Khan, AKA Little Badman, is a force to be reckoned with – “Eggington’s greatest living freestyler”, “the Asian James Bond. The brown Jason Bourne. The Muslim Inspector Gadget.” With a long history of naughtiness, Little Badman’s second adventure sees him sent to Mahmood Academy Summer School in Pakistan with his best friend Umer, his partner in everything since they were the size of a bag of rice.

“You have been trouble since the day you were born. I have told your mother: you need discipline! Pakistan is the only place you will receive a proper upbringing!” his father declares, and Little Badman is less than happy: “And, yeah, I know I’m Pakistani and all, but I ain’t from Pakistan. It’s as foreign to me as it would be to anyone else who grew up in the UK. Home for me is Poundland, and Argos and KFC (the halal ones at least). What the hell was I gonna do in Pakistan?”

Suffice to say, despite the headmaster’s intention to render his pupils “disciplined, fit, educated. Not the wretched meat sacks standing before us today,” Little Badman cannot be constrained. While plotting his escape, he’s engaged by the Agency to undertake an undercover mission that might just save the world…

Alongside the outrageous antics, whip-smart dialogue, and Little Badman’s irrepressible personality, there’s a wonderful grandfather-grandson relationship and representation of Little Badman’s engagement with Pakistan. Full marks!
