This series from Harriet Muncaster is bound to delight fans of her Isadora Moon books.
Little mermaid Emerald has a punky, gothic vibe so she’s not too happy when she has to get dressed up in all her royal finery for a special party hosted by her stepdad the king of Scallop City. Her stepsister Delphina loves wearing the frilly frocks and jewels, but they don’t do anything for Emerald, and her best friend octopus Inkibelle is very uncomfortable in her little tiara.
Fortunately, visiting prince Mola is happier in more casual gear too. Two merpeas in a pod, they form a bond! The story is lots of fun and full of adventure, while Emerald’s underwater world is particularly appealing with its gardens, fishy snacks, and mermaid furniture. With its pretty green and black illustrations, short chapters and fast-moving plots, this series is perfect for independent readers too.

About
Emerald and the Runaway Royal Synopsis
Meet Isadora Moon's mermaid friend, Emerald! Emerald is learning how to be a mermaid princess, but there are just so many rules. She loves having fun with her friends and exploring her underwater world with her pet octopus, Inkibelle, she doesn't want to be stuck in the palace with everyone looking at her and checking that she's doing things the proper, royal way. E
merald's mum and stepdad King Auster are busy preparing for a very important visit from another royal family-The Seadragons! Emerald is on her best 'princess-like' behaviour even though she'd much rather be wearing her comfy clothes, hanging out with her friends and pet Octopus, Inkibelle. When Prince Mola Seadragon takes a Manta Ray from the royal stable and runs away, Emerald follows. On an adventure across Scallop City, Emerald and Mola discover they have much more in common than they thought.

About Harriet Muncaster
Harriet Muncaster has been drawing, writing and creating things for as long as she can remember. It was while at school that she discovered that being an illustrator and author was a real career path she could take. From that moment on Harriet knew exactly what she wanted to be! She studied illustration at Norwich University of the Arts and then went on to do an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. After completing the MA, Harriet’s work was spotted by a publisher at Bologna Children’s book fair and she got her first book deal.
Harriet is inspired by anything magical, fantastical and glittery. She also has a great fascination for miniature things and owns a dollshouse in the shape of a castle.
Harriet is the award-winning author of the best-selling Isadora Moon series, with over 5 million copies sold worldwide and translated into over 27 languages, and counting!
Harriet lives in a village in Bedfordshire with her husband, Henry.
